Could Painkillers Keep Your Brain Stronger? Experts Reveal

United States: According to experts who studied this extensively, anti-inflammatory drug usage over extended periods might lower the chances of developing the disease.

However, as the experts note, long-term usage of these anti-inflammatory medications provides protective advantages rather than the intake of higher dosages for additional benefits.

What more has been revealed?

Studies indicate that inflammation functions as a possible factor to advance and start dementia formation. Scientists have studied non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for their anti-inflammatory effects, which raised the question about their ability to prevent dementia development.

The research demonstrated that people who used NSAIDs for an extended period reduced their chances of dementia development by 12 percent.

The research demonstrated that neither brief nor intermediate use of NSAIDs demonstrated any protective effects against dementia, nor did higher cumulative dosage produce additional benefits.

The research indicates that ongoing medication use instead of high-dose treatment provides better prevention against dementia development.

According to corresponding author M. Arfan Ikram, MSc, MD, PhD, of Erasmus MC University Medical Center Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, “Our study provides evidence on possible preventive effects of anti-inflammatory medication against the dementia process. There is a need for more studies to further consolidate this evidence and possibly develop preventive strategies,” scitechdaily.com reported.
